CHEAP COLOURED LABOUR

The Auckland Sailors' Union is wiring to the Premier nnd to Mr Fisher, the prospeetjva Federal Premier, asking them to legislate against the employment of cheap coloured labour on a steamer trading between Australia and New Zealand. 1 'J, This is directed against the P. and 0. Company, which is stated pays Lascars 25s a month against £7 to seamen and £9 to stokers paid by the Union Company and the Hud-dart-Parker Company, with which it is in direct competition.
