CARTERTON NEWS.

(Own Correspondent.) Friday The General Committee of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society met to-day, and transacted formal business in readiness for the annual meeting. A meeting of the General Committes of the South Wairarapa Poultry Association was held this afternoon, Mr D. Reid, President, in the chair. The treasurer's statement showed a cie lit balance which was considered very encouraging. The secretary reported that July 13th and 14th had been applied for as show dates, but no word had been received yet as to whether they were available. Messrs H. M. Wilton (Masterton) and J. Monoghan fClareville) were elected members, Messrs E. Eagle, junr., R. J. CinpT.an, H McPhee, D. Reid and H. Deller, were apppointed a programme committee. A protest; committee was appointed consisti'g of Messrs J. M. Lightfoot, D. ,Reid and W. B. Allen. Routine business was dealt with and sundry matters left to the secretary to deal with. The gale which has prevailed here to-day was the severest experienced in the district for over three years. A considerable amount of damage was done, and on the Carrington settlement sheds and fences were hurled about in pieces. ;In other'parts of the district oat stack tops sue* rumbed to the'force of the gale, windows of private dwellings were blown in, and trees were uprooted. The force of the wind compelled a Matarawa settler tD turn back and take shelter in the town. At the time of writing the gale has subsided a little.
