I understand that the reisdents of Dew's Koad are experiencing some difficulty in getting a sufficient number of ratepayers to agree to raising a special loan to meet the grant which was placed on the estimates last year, for the deviation of the JMakuri-Pabiatua Bond.
It is rather a pity that the parochial system of voting monies for necessary works, is heing adop' ted by local bodies. Surely both of these works are sf sufficient importance to warrant the local body in finding the necessary addition to Government money out of their General funds, instead of adhering to a hard and fast rule of allocating expenditure to separate undertakings, consequently entailing the raising of special loans by small communities which should in common .fairne3s be borne by the whole of the ratepayers, and although in many instances the half of the money has been provided by the Government, through this it has been deiayed or lost altogether. A similar difficulty is ako being experienced in connection with the erection a bridge across the Makuri stream at Te t Aupapa, for which a Government grant of £6OO was. given last year. The Konini Football Club intend holding their annual social in the Konini Hall "on Wednesday, 20i h inst. The sale is reported through the agency of Messrs E. B.
