PRISONERS ESCAPE.

J AN EXCITING CHaSE. By Telegraph—Press Association. INVERCARGILL, April 11. Two prisoners, Albert Stockbridge, aged 22, serving eighteen montbs for breaking into the Carterton railway station, and Joseph Howie, aged 18, serving twelve months, and one of the band who committed fifteen burglaries in Wellington, and was arrested at Happy Valley, with a revolver in his possession,escaped from the gaol gang at three o'clock this afternoon. After an exciting chase Howie was captured five miles oat by Gaoler Hawkins. Stockbridge gained the shelter of the bush near thefracecourse, and darkness cut the pursuit short. Men have been posted for the night, and the search will be resumed this mornnig. when fcapture is almost certain.
