Denbee, thanking the Trustees on behalf of the Church of England Men's Society for allowing them the use of the Town Hall. Mr F. H. Rennie applied for terms for leasing the Town Hall for three nights weekly for a Dicture entertainment.
On the motion of Mr D- Caselberg. it was unanimously decided that a committee consisting of Messrs Jackson, Eton, Robinson, Krahsgon, and the mover be appointed to go into the matter of the desirability of letting the Town Hall for a term, that, full details be procured, and that they submit a report and recommendation to a special meeting of the Trustees at an early d3?e. Mr W. H. Jackson, Headmaster of the District High School, forwarded the list of matriculation pupils and holders of scholarships entitled to the £lO grant It was decided to vote the first half of the grant of £lO to the senior Board scholarship winner and to the matriculation scholars attending the University. Gladys Cork wrote applying for an ii crease of scholarship grant. The application was held over until the election ot the new Trustees, Mr H. W. Jackson applied for the lease of three or five sections adjoining the sections already held under lease from the Trust. It was decided to hold the application over for a month. The Treasurer's report showed: — Balance cr. as per pass book, £551 lis 4d; cash in hand, £B9 15s; total, £641 6s 4d; unpresented cheques, £l4l 6s lid; balance cr. at March 31st, 1910, £499 10s 3d. The secretary of the Education Board wrote acknowledging donation of£32 15s to the District High School and stating that the wood work room would be erected provided permission is eiven in writing to remove the building if necessary. Mr L'anieil said he was very disappointed with the building, which was more like a stable than anything else. It was most unsightly, and was not an ornament to the sectnn oy any means. Virious members agreed that the Board had not complied with the conditions. Mr Krahagen thought that the Board should be asked to either comply with the conditons or remove the building. Mr Eton moved that the Education Board hj? written to and informed that not having ' received permission to erect the wood working room on the Trust's' section the Board be asked to remove the structure to their own grounds, and if they Wish the lease completed they must comply with the' conditions under which the section was offered to them. The motion was seconded by Mr Wag<?. fl/*r Jackson thought that it would be" a great pity that now that the rural scheme had been constituted atjjthe lowest amount of cost that the Board felt that they could go to the Department, for it would be a pity to interfere now. He had no idea of the kind of building that was to be erected, but it was a convenient one. The intention was to plant the section around in such a way that it would be an improvement to the section. Personally he was disappointed that the" Board had not shown greater keenness with regard to the Trustees' offer. He was satisfied that when the improvements were effected to the section that it would not be decreased in value. Mr Caselberg, while sympathising with Mr Jackson, said that he must support the motion because the Board had not held to their contract. Mr Robinson suggested that the position might be improved if the matter were more fully explained to the Board. The motion was then put to the meeting and carried.
