TURF NOTES.

(By "Zetland,") I' have'to acknowledge the receipt of a complimentary ticket for the Wellington Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, which opens on Wednesday next. Acceptances are due to-night, anda well filled list is practically assured. The Merrie England mare. Rose Herald, has been thrown out of work for a time, and may not be given another preparation until after the winter. So far she has not raced with the best of luck, but later on she may be found capable of making mends for previous failures. Sunbonnet has been scratched for her engagements at the WelM gton meeting. The little mare has been eased in her work since ru inin? at Tauherenikau this week. Mataari and Merrie Rose will probably be found competing at the Manawetu meeting this month. In the Longburn Handicap, of nine furlongs, they have been awarded 6.9 and 6.8 respectively, and may therefore be considered well treated. H Perle d'Or winner of the YaldhurstWelter, at the Canterbury Meeting, is a full sister to the highly priced Golden Slipper. Bobrikoff continued his victorious career on "the other side" by winning the All-aged Stakes of one mile. He carriPd 8.12, ran the distance in lmin 39sec, and is certainly showing the Australians what he is capable of.

A colt by Birkenhead Lady Fisher, and therefore a half-brother to Maniapoto. was sold at the Sydney sales this week for 70 guineas. The Soult filly, Salute, who started favourite for the Easter Handicap at Auckland, was rather badly hurt when she fell in the race, and is not expected to be raced again this season. S. Reic*, who had his collarbone broken when, riding at Shannon a few weeKs go, rode Dawn to victory in the Welter Handicap at Auckland this week. By running second in the Challenge Stakes at fticearton, the two-year-old colt Formby, gave promise of being a stayer. He ran out the seven furlongs in good style, and was only beaten by that good mare Armlet. MW
