CARTERTON NEWS.
(Own Correspondent.) Thursday. The Rev. W. 3. Elliott, Methodist Minister, who is leaving for Whangarei next week, will be tendered a farewell hocial by the congregation to-morrow evening. Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge of Oddfellows "have decided to hold an invitation social and dance on Thursday, July 14th, to celebrate the centenary of the Order. To-morrow evening the Rev. W. Mawson, M.A., of the Canton Village Mission, is to give an illustrated lecture in the Presbyterian Schoolroom. Mr Mawson has had seven years' work in Canton. After threatening for a day or so, rain set in here this morning in earnest. The work of metalling the recently formed Seddon Street is now in progress. The new dwelling befng erected in Wakelin Street for Mr J. H. Wakelm is beii'g pushed forward rapidly, and in the course of two or three weeks should be nearly completed. It w'ill have all modern conveniences.
