It is that of Price's Patent Candle Company, Ltd. with two other large factories, one at Hattersea on the Thames, and the other on the Mersey, new Birkenhead, covering together thirty acres, and giving employ ment to about 2,200 people. The leading position held by the company is shown not merely by their having received the large number of eighty-six awards at the principal International Exhibitions during the raet half century, but especially by the un qu»* fact that five of these are Grand I'm gained in the greatest oandle-pro-ducing countries 01 the European continent —namely, in Antwerp in 1894, Amsterdam in 181)6.
