BESSES O' TH' BARN BAND.

The weather greatly marred the attendance at the Showgrounds yesterday afterncon, when this Band gave its final performance of this season. This is greatly to be deplored, because many who would have attended purposely to hear the Band play in the open air were thereby disappointed. Then again the rain necessitated the Band's taking up a position in the grandstand, so that those who had braved the elements for the purpose spoken of did not attain their desire. Notwithstanding all these depressing influences the performance was again a most meritorious one, and throuehout it was listened to by a highly appreciative audience, every item being enthusiastically applauded.. The progrmme was a popular one, consisting of the march "Coronation" (German), overture "Light Cavalry" (Suppc). Mr Ryder's cornet solo polka "Les Folies" (Waldtuegel), which being &o vociferously received, "The Lost Chord"was again given. Mr Weedal's trombone solo "Victory," written by J. Ord Hume, was a masterpiece, and as in all the solos the Band's beautiful accompaniment, with its abseoce of braasinesa, makes them so much more acceptable. The encore number was given by the Band, "Rock of Ages," with the same sokmn grandeur as on fuesday eve. - ing. Of the Band's selections "lannhauser" stands supreme. Tut weird and majestic "Pilgrim's Chorus," followed bv the b*antif.| pleadiag romance "0, Star of Evh." carried one to heigh??. Evidently the "Gems of Sullivan" pleased the popular taste mo.-tt as there was greater enthusiasm shown in the applause that followed. The last item, "Reminiscences of Britain," was so quickly succeeded by I the National Anthem that the aad- | lence had no opportunity of showing [ its final appreciation of a performance that was alto ethir too Hhort.
