\ The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister rfor Railways, is a passenger by the -'.s. Manuka from Wellington to Sydr ney to-day. One of the original Mauriceville small larm settlers, Mr Neils Assersen, passed away on Tuesday night 1 •last at the ripe old age of 78 years, ■at the residence of bis daughter, Mrs ' Golf, of Euripuni. Deceased, who was born in Sweden in 1831, leaves two daughters, Mrs Goff, of Master- i ton, and Mrs Jas. Kjestrup, ot Te /Rangitumau; one son, Mr Edward Assersen; and seventeen grandchild:ren. Deceased will be buried to-mor-row (Good Friday) in the Mauriceville Cemetery. The funeral leaves . Masterton at 10.30 a.m.

Jolly at St. Andrews Presbyterian CLurch, Palmerston -North, the Sessions Clerk has authorised the statement that no such call >has been made, and no congregational meeting to make tin call has yet been held.—Press Association.
A Palmerstun Press Association , vmessage states (that a meeting of citizens decided to make a presentation to Mrs Stagpoole on Saturday night, in appreciation of the services •of Police Sergeant Stagpoole, who is being moved to Oamaru. The Justices will also make a presentation on the 'same occasion.
