PUBLIC SCHOOL BUILDINGS
TOTALLY DESTROYED BY FIRE.
(By Telegraph—Special to Age). Sunday. The Pahiatua Public School Builc*
ings were totally destroyed by fire last night. About 9 p.m. th 3 alarm was given, and about one hour afterwards the destruction was complete. The brigade was on the spot promptly, but it was absolutely helpless, the water supply not being laid on to the school. A bucket brigade did good work, and succeeded in saving the infant department, which is across the grounds from the main building. A high wind was, blowing at the time, and helped the fire in its work of destruction. The origin of the fire is ? mystery. The janitor awept the school buildings and locked up at ten on Saturday morning. There have been no fires in the school since the winter.
