CARTERTON NEWS.

(Own Correspondent.) Saturday. A movement is on foot amongst the tradepseople here to close their premises from Thursday evening until luesday morning for the Easter Holidays. The local Fire Brigade have received the promise of a trophy from Messrs Veitch and Allan, drapers, Wellington, for competition among its members. Mr M. Driscoll has presented some Irish journals to the local Public Reading Room. The local Public Library and Reading Room closes from Thursday evening until Tuesday for the Easter Holidays.

The harvest testival services of the Dalefield Methodist Church were celebrated to-day, the afternoon devotion being conducted by the Rev. W. G. Maslin, and the evening service by Mr B. Roberts. The produce which formed the decorations are to be sold to-morrow night. The annual picnic' of St. Mark's Sunday School is to be held in the Recreation Ground on Easter Mon I day.

Tne locjil Salvationists held their harvest festival services to-day, Cap tain who was some ytars ago stationed here, conducting the celebrations. The decorations weie neatly arranged, and special meetings are to be held 10-inorrow and Tuesday evening.
