MASTERTON RACING CLUB.

SECOND DAY. (By " Zetland.") Fine weather favoured the Club for the second day of the meeting, The attendance of the public was not as large as on Thursday. Six bookmakers called the odds on the lawn, and two did likewise on the outside division. The racing throughout was of a very interesting character, and Mr T. Cameron's starting was again a satisfactory feature of the gathering. The Secretary, Mr A. Hathaway. carried out his various duties v;:ry commeniably, and the general arrangements were well thought out.

Only three horses lined out for the Hack Hurdle*?, and Kelso had no difficulty in accounting for Pakau and Millpond, the two representatives of the Porirua stable. The Telephone Handicap was well fought out at th > finish between Liza and Waiata, t* e first-named winning by a narrow margin. There were mv\ny who corsidered Naumai thrown in with lOst 61b, but this did i.ot appear to be the case as the Conqueror gelding nished last, and Mr bollock's judgment was not at fault. Merrie Emerald had rather an easy win in the Hack Scurry, Uold Top, the pacemaker in the early stages, running second. Waiariki, by San Fran, scored very comfortably from Aotea. Golden Butterfly, who filled third position, finished up very lame. Tne Autumn Handicap provided a splendid finish between Sunbonnet and Iranui, victory going to Mr Cooper's mare by a head. Taitoko, Aberration and Ballarat finished close up. Mr T. Ray's Merrie Land showed a lot of dash in the Railway Hack, and won by four lengths from the fast finishing First Battery. The Final Welter was a fine race to witness, as at the distance five of the six contestants were racing down the straight in a line. Hilarian dashed to the front in answer to his rider's call, and won in good style frum Marengo.
