SHACKLETON AT THE SUUTH POLE. The elaborate word pictures of Lieutenant Shackleton's dash for the Pole cannot naturally be as graphic as the record which has been taken by the camera and transferred to the •cinematograph. This record will be placed before the Maaterton people on Monday, when Mr Spencer, a well-known Australian entrepeneur, will open a "picture season" at the Town Hall, with a series of views of the Antarctic expedition as the "star" attraction. These pictures hwk been copyrighted, and the Aus t»ftan right have been sold to the manager, *ho will reproduce them to-morrow. In addition to the Shackleton views there will be an interesting display of pictures of Mount Kosciusko, Australia s celebrated alpine holiday resort. Tbe general films shown will be of the usual varied nature. Special note must be made of the prices, which are within the reach of all.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. An entertainment of good quality as always sure of patronage, and the excellence of the programmes prs■sented at the Foresters' Hall are bearing fruit in large audiences. The current series is of a very high standard, and the additional light #,pm che new dynamo still further enhances the exhibition. "The Cow--boy Millionaire," as the name implies, is a story of life "Out West," the exciting scenes on the ranch -caught on at once. Bucking broDchos, ridine wild bulls and other fractious animals, seem to give the cowboys great delight "In the Watches of the Night" is the star dramatic •film, and is full of pathos and sensation. The plot is woven around a starving family, the father steals to get bread for the sick child, he is detected in the act and arrested. He is allowed to say farewell to his wife, ;and in his desperate condition tries ;toJlw>t the little one. The man frc%.whom he has stolen discovers the prisoner's poverty.and withdraws the charge, and sees that the family are provided for. The comic element •was not neglected and caused great slaughter. The programme will be produced again to-night for the last tim<3. A complete change will take place on Monday.
