TE WHARAU NOTES.

(Own Correspondent)

Tuesday

This district v has been much benefited by the recent rains, which have made the country on all sides look fresh and green, and assured abundance of leed for the winter months. Stock are also looking at their best, and a good many fat sheep are leaving the district. It is quite common to see four or five drovers at the accommodation house for the night as they pass through with mobs of sheep and-cattle. Mr Opie, the County Engineer, has been out here for several days making arrangements for fresh metalling contracts. The School Committee held their monthly meeting on Saturday night, when all members were present, and a good deal ot important business was transacted.

The Rifle Club's representatives, who have been distinguishing themselves at Greytown and Trentham, j returned on Saturday and were congratulated on all sides for the very creditable scores they put up during this tour. In the Teams Match at Trentham the Te Wharau team was placed sixth on the list, one of their number, E. E. Vennell, putting u p the highest score in the match. Sportsmen here are anxiously waiting for. the 24th of March, when the dear-stalking season commences. It will be rather bad for any unfortunate stag which may come in the way of some of our riflemen's eagle eye.

" Mr and Mrs Taylor, of Featherston, are at present visiting at Forest Leigh.
