WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

Messrs Levin and Co. report as follows regarding Friday's sale:—At the filth sale of the season, helu today, we offered 300 bales of wool out of a total offering of 1,750 bales. There was a good attendance of buyers, for a sale at this season of the year. There was a good entry of lambs' wool which sold well, though not up to the high range ot the February sale. The fleece wool offering was shabby and heavy in condition, and contrary to expectations, prices held their own and all lots realised last sale prices readily,, The following are some of the prices realised : Lambs: KKK 11 Jd; Marshlands, lid; B lOfd; Fakohe lOJd; MP. IHd JW-Z. 10id HC, IOJd EBK, 10£ d GB. IOJd. Crossbreds, IWP, lOd AJP, 9|d; G, BJd F 9c!. We quote: —Medium crossbreds, 9£d to lOd; coarse crossbreds, 8d to 9Jd inferior crossbreds, 7£d to 9d pieces and bellies, s|d to 6|d; locks, 3d to 4jd; lambs wool superior, lOd to lljd; lambs wool medium, 9d to lOd; j lambs wool inferior, 7d to B£d. ,

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report as follows: —The Associated brokers held their Fifth or Supplementary sale to-day, when some 2,400 bales were offered to a large gathering of local fellmongers and shippers, including some representatives of Home and Continental houses. Bidding was fairly briskly and the bulk of the lots were sold at prices quite equal to February sale, considering the quality. Taken as a whole the catalogue was a very unattractive onejjcontaining many rough lots and the prices obtained must be consideredj very satisfactory. Owners prohibitive reserves were largely responsible for the passed in lots. Our catalogue comprised a total of 320 bal vi, and as is usual at this time of year consisted of very rough back country wool and late shorn lambs. There was good competition for all wools and prices were fully maintained. ' WELLINGTON HIDE AND SKIN SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agen'/y Company, Limited, report as follows:—-We held our ussual fortnightly sale to-day, when we offered a catalogue of about 3,500 skins, a quantity of hides, calfskins ana tallow, also a number of bags of

wool. Prices were firm at last sale's rates.and there was a good attendance of buyers. We quote: —Wool: In bags.—Crossbred coarse, 7id to B£d per lb; pieces and bellies, crossbred, 4d to 5Jd; lambs, super to 9Jd; lambs seedy, s£d to 6£d. Sheepskins.—Crossbred fine to merino, to 7|d; crossbred medium and coarse, 7d to B£d ; dead skins, s£d to 6|d; shortwool, 4Jd to 6|d; damaged pelted skins, 4d to 6.? d; dry 1 pelts, damaged 2d to 3d; lambs, to 7£d; green skins, Is 7d to 2s 5d each; gi'een lambs, Is 6d to 3s 3d. Hides. Cow and light ox, 6?; d to Ggd per lb; cow, 6d to 6|d; faulty hides, 2d to s|d; calf best, to B|d; calf damaged, Id to 7Jd. Tallow.—ln tins 20s to 22s per cwt; in casks 263 per cwt. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd.. rcort:—We offered a fair catalogue of skins and hide 3 to a good attendance if buyers, prices being on a par with last sale. We quote. — Skins: Crossbred medium, BJd; halfwools, fijd; dead, G£d; shorts and inferior, 3d to fid; lambs, 3s 6d; pelts, 3s to 3s 4d; lambs' pelts, Is 9d. Hides.—Light cow, 6§d to 6£d; light of 7d to 7Jd; calf, 6.? d to Bfd. LONDON MARKETS. J ' Messrs Dalgety and Compiny, Limited, report having received the following cable messages from their ' London house, under date of the ]oth inst:-Frozen Meat: A good demand exists for all descriptions. Prices for New Zealand lamb are unchanged, but Australian lamb rules &d higher. Canterbury mutton still firm at last quotations, but New Zealand North Inland and Australian are jjd higher. Prices for beef are a farthing higher. Wool.—Sales continue firm, and lately reported rates are fully maintained. Continental and English buyers are the principal operators, America buyers doing hardly anything. The ' decline is chiefly on crossbred wools, greasy, medium and coarse qualities, suitable for America. Tallow: Prices are par to 6d higher. Advance is chiefly on low and inferior qualities. Kabbitskins.—New Zealand rabbitskins are 5 per cent, higher, other descriptions 10 per cent to 15 per cent, higher. Furriers bought freely, even the lower qualities. One thousand two hundred and seventy bales were offered, and practically B[l sold.
