LETTER LEFT BY MRS DAY. JEALOUSY THE MOTIVE OF THE ACT. Received March 9, 10 a.m. MELBOURNE, March 9. At an inquest concerning the 3eath of Mrs Day (who, after cutting her throat, set fire to a house, and with a child perished in the flames), a letter from her, addressed to the Chief Commissioner of Police, was read, in which she accused her husband of 1 wrongdoing with her step-sister, and intimated her intention of putting an end to the condition of things, adding that some people would say she was mad. P.use Woodward, the step-sister, admitted being in lovt with Day. She stated that on the night of the fire the deceased awoke her and led her to the diningroom, apparently trying to throw her on the fire. A verdict was returned that deceased Wua rrent.dly unsound when she took her life. had been discharged from the police force for joining in the name of his brother because he was over the regulation asrp.
