TE WHARAU NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.) TE WHARAU, March 7. _ Shooting enthusiasts, of whom there are a good many in Te Wharau, were highly gratified at the news that j their representatives so distinguished themselves at the Greytown Rifle Meeting last week, when Mr W. Kummer won the championship, aDd other members won several prizes. They also won the teams match, and on the whole the performance reflects great credit on the skill of the Te .Wharau riflemen as marksmen. The metalling contract between Hikorangi and Te Wharau was completed last week, and as the road from Carterton or Masterton is now completely metalled all the way to Te Wharau, mail contractors and the general tia m»-' »'J> ic wi,] no doubt leel the benefit of good roads and appreciate them accordingly. Several other contracts are about to fe? let for the improving of roads in this district so'that in time Te Wharau should be well supplied with metalled roads. Messrs Ivans and Hubbard, rabbit inspectors, are visiting this district and making an exhaustive inspection ofithe varoiua farms and stations. Mr Lavery. of Cartercon, spent a fiw days in Te Wharau last week. Mr J. S. Tennant, inspector, for the Wellington Education Board, pays his annual v'sit to the Te Wharau School this week. Miss Braer, of Wellington has been visiting Te Wharau during the past few weeks. Miss Jsobel McGregor, of Hikorangi, is visiting ."Stansborgh" for a few days. Mr and Mrs T. Barrer and family, of Wellington, have decided to take up their residence in this district. A number of young people of Te Wharau raised a picnic party to the sea beach at Flat Point last Sunday, and all express themselves as havin enjoyed the outing immensely.
