SENSATIONAL ACCIDENT.
AN EXPRESS CART DRIVER'S ESCAPE. By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON N., March 8. A sensational train accident happened shortly before one o'clock today, when the down Maiu Trunk express, coming into the Square at a high speed, crashed into an express cart. The driver had a miraculous escape. He declares the engine never whistled till it was close to him and he bad no idea of its presence till he was in the centre of the rails, and saw the on rushing train. He jumped, and thus saved his life, for the next instant the engine struck the vehicle, and carried it along on the cowcatcher into the Square for nearly a hundred yards. The suddenness of impact broke the express clean away from the horae, which escaped like its driver, without a scratch. The train was travellirg at a dangerous rate.
