The opening of the Kamarovski murder trial, at Venice, was marked with passionate scenes. Naumoff, speaking from an iron caged dock, sobbing throughout, related the full details of the crime from his first meeting the Countess Tarnovska. He told how the fascination of the woman led him to promise to go to Moscow fr<3m Venice to murder Kamarovski as the only means of preventing Tarnovska from carrying into execution her threat to go to attother lover. The Judge expects sixty sittings in order to examine 250 witnessed. During their imprisonment the prisoners learnt the Italian language. Tarnovska is the victim of intense hostility on the part of the populace during the daily journey in a godoia to the Court* house. She displays extraordinary impassivity in Court.
A cablegram published in Saturday's issue was as follows:—"The sensational trial of Naumoff, a Russian, Prelukoff, a lawyer, and the Countess Tarnovska, a Russian divorcee, for the murder of Count Katnarovski, at Venice, in September,l 907, will commence at Venice, to-day. The Countess has confessed complicity. alleging tnat Naumoff fell desperately in love with her. She was betrothed at the time to Kamarovski. Naumoff determined to get rid of the latter, whose life was insured for £20,000, in favour of Tarnovski. Prelukoff has confessed that the Countess planned the murder to get the insurance money.
