A conference at Washington ot the leading capitalists and manufacturers has initiated a National Labour Alliance to curb the political activity of the American Federation of Labour, and its interference with industry. A million dollars have already been subscribed.
At the moment of the strike in Philadelphia the orchestras in the hotels and cafes ceased playing. Cab and taxi-cab drivers abandoned their vehicles. The wealthy drove their own motors.

meeting. Many large works are'still not seriously affected. Some tramway cars are running, guarded by police.
