"PIRATES OF PENZANCE."

Last Tuesday the above Society recommenced their weekly rehearsals with the intention of putmg on the "Pirates" in May next. Since the ; staging of "Trial by Jury" a number of r.ew members have been enrolled, thus making the total membership over sixty, and a very successful performance of the opera being rehearsed is anticipated. The dramatis personae is as follows:—MajorGeneral Stanley, Mr Harry Hall; The Pirate King, Mr W. lagulden; Samuel, his lieutenant. Mr F. H. Elcoate; James, a pirate, Mr F. W. Fowler; Frederick, the pirate apprentice, Mr W S. J ago; Sergeant of Police, Mr D. . Walsh; Mabel, Kate and Isabel, Major-General Stanley's daughters, Misses Jago, Harris and Carr, and Kuth, a prate maid of all work, Miss M. Cameron. The attention of members is called to the advertisement in this issue requesting a full attendance this evening, when a general meeting together with the usual rehearsal will be h«ld
