CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER.
A CHINESE FIREMAN THRASHED AND KICKED. Received March 6, 7.5 p.m. SYDNEY, March 5. Hector McLean, second engineer on the steamer Straightness, has been committed for t'ial on a charge of manslaughter of a Chinese fireman on February 18th. The witnesses, principally Chinese, stated that the deceased was thrashed and kicked by the accused on several occasions, who died on the day following the last hammering. There were between twenty and thrity bruises on the body, which was thrown into the sea.
