Mr Vandervelde, during an interperation in the Chamber cf Deputies, statt d that it had now been found that King Leopold invested £2,800,000 in companies, directed by men of straw, including £1,000,000 in Congo bonds. The money was tainted with blood, and ought to revert to Belgium to eDable them to improve the negroes' lot. Tbe Government admitted King Leopold had deceived them. The Government should uphold the nation's right. Other speakers asserted that £l,200,000 hadfdisapppared from the Congo Treasury, and that books and papers had been destroyed. M. De Woeste paid'a tribute to the Princess' delicate sense offhonour. A resolution from the Left was negatived by 7 0 votes to 66. M.
