RAC'NGFLEMINGTON MEETING. ORLINE WINS THE CUP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Keceived March 1. 7.15 p.m. MELBOURNE, March 1. The weather was fine and warm for the continuation of the Flemington meeting. There was also a good attendance. A good race for the Cup was expected but when the board was hoisted only a dozen were left in. Orline led from start to ■ finish, and his time was only a quarter of a second outside the record of 1905. The results are:Hurdles—Vernier 1, The Gaul 2, Lord Desmond 3. Four others started. Won by a length. Time, smin 50£ see. Ascot Vale Stakes—Beverage 1, Lager 2, Gigandra 3. Other starters—Bobadea, Teanami, Terinßa. Lager led to the turn from Gigandra and Beverage. The latter ran through at the distance in the centre of the course and won brilliantly by three lengths. Tims, lmin 151 sec. AUSTRALIAN CUP. A handicap sweepstakes of 25 sovs each, with 1,25050v5. added. Second horse to receive 250, and the third 125 sovs out of the stake. For three-year-olds and upwards. Two and a-quarter miles. : Mr J. Fielder's ch h Orline, 6yrs, including 31b penalty, 6.12 1 Mr H. Power's b h Pet.dil, 4yrs, , 8.10 2: Mr J. Wilson, jun.'s br c Diabolo, 3yrs, 6.7 3 Nine others started. From a good start Orline dashed to j the front, and at the half-mile post was followed by Diabolo, Flavinius, Mushka, Delaware and Pendil. This order was maintained to the riverside, where Pendil moved up to filth, replacing Aberdeen, who dropped to the rear. Orline was leading by two lengths past the abattoir from Diabolo, and round'np: the turn Pendil gained rapidly, and made a gallant but hopeless effort to catch the leader entering the straight. Won ny three lengths, five lengths between second and third. Carl Dour was fourth. Tim 3, 3min 57£ sec. Steepechase—Ripon 11.8, 1; Alcuin 9.5, 2; Saverne 9.7, 3. Othar starters were—Seymour, Boisdale, Earl of Castles, Eucambene, Wolsley, Stariel, Goschen. Ripon took 1 charge at the turn, and won easily by eight lengths. Earl of Castles last. Time, 4min 13sec. Bourke's Handicap—Pretty Pee, 6.10, 1; Kunngai 7.9, 2; Conge d' Eline 8.2, 3. Also started—Mala, True Scot, Knox, Malmsey, Plush, Captain White. Queen of Scots, Seatundale, Mother Goose, Sequarioas and Waitai. Plush made the running. Pretty Peg went to the front in the straight, but challenged I by Kurinjai won by two lengths.
