Mr Purcell Webb has Been engaged to give an organ recital on the new organ in St. Mark's Church, Carterton. A meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of William James Patrick, of Rakanui, will be held at the Courthouse, Masterton, on Monday, March 14th, at noon. The monthly meeting of the Managers of the Masterton Technical School will he held on Friday evening next. The business is to fix the date for the opening of the classes, the appointment of instructors and general business. The price of Jambs has taken, a suddni upward tendency in South Canterbury, says a Timaru paper. Prior to the rain feed was so scarce that farmers were willing to part with their lambs at almost any price; but;there ia how an abundance of freSh green feed, arid no one is in any hurry to sell. It is apparent that there is likely to be a strong movement in the iron and steel market in the near future. A cablegram has been received from a leading ironmaster in England by hia representative in Auckland to the effect that iron and steel are advancing in price and orders must only be taken subject to fluctuations within a week.. A similar upward movement is reported from the American and Continental iron and steel markets and has naturally reacted on copper. The Catholic concert and dance, which takes place in the Town and Drill Halls, on 17th March (St. Fatrick's Day), promises to be a great success. Tickets are selling freely, ini all those who enjoy a good even ing's entertainment are looking forward to it. The concert, which j forms the first part of the programme, will be one of the best yet held in Masterton, all those engaged being the very best. Strong committees are already hard at work getting things ready, so that nothing will be wanting on that night. Bunker coal is stiil in great demand in New Zealand, and is likely, to be in demand so long as the Newcastle miners remain on strike. As an instance of the extra amount of of work thrown on some of the shipping companies, it may be mentioned that from Friday 5 February 4th, till Friday, February 11th, the Invercargill agents for the Tyaer line had to find over 5,200 tons of bunker coal for their" steamers. Formerly such an amount would have sufficed for several months, because the steamers of thrs f line used to coal at Sydney on the voyage out, and merely supplemented their supplies in the dominion.

The following handicaps have bean declared for the 60 yards handicap to be swum in the Park Lake to-morrow ! evening at 6.15 p.m., under the auspices of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club:—L. J. The new proprietors intend to uphold the reputation of this establishment for keeeping their stork up-to-date and of the highest quality.
