CARTERTON NEWS.

(Own Correspondent.) Monday, Recently Mr Len Johnston, of Parkvale, received a spill from his bicycle and suffered some minor skin abrasions to his right leg. He gave them the necessary attention, and they began to heal satisfactorily. A few days later, however, the dje from the trousers, as the result of perspiration, found its way into one of the wounds, and the limb began to get painful and stiff. He deemed it advisable to consult a chemist,Jwho found the limb had been poisoned. In connection with the Church of, England's New Zealand General Mission for 1910, the forerunners, Kev. Canon Pollock and Rev. H A. Kennedy, are to visit the Wairarapa on Saturday and Sunday next, At Masterton on Saturday they will hold services and meetings, including a conference with the clergy, and in addition to Masterton will preach at Carterton, Greytown and Featherston on the Sunday. The heavy rains which fell in Carterton for the last two days of the past week ceased on Sunday morning, and the surplus water which was lying in all directions quickly disappeared. The moisture was badly needed, and the surrounding country now presents a freshened appearance. The local Rifle Volunteers returned home on Sunday from the Kitchener Encampment. They were all more or less weary, and emphasise "that there's no place like home." While there waa room for impxoveinent in the arrangements the men appeared to have a good time, in spite of the wet weather. Among the "camp yarns" that was floating in the air on Monday was that one ot the local men evidently unaware that contingents had arrived before them had to respond to a good number of "who's there" while searching for the best tent, and finished up with having to return to the one that was available at first.
