HOCKEY.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING. A large and enthusiastic meeting of members of the Wairarapa Hockey Association was hsld last evening in Rankin's Rooms, the President (Mr A. C. Major) presiding. The meeting was called to discuss the question of a guarantee in connection with the visit of a team of English hockey players in 1911. The Secretary of the New Zealand -Association wrote stating that a guarantee of £SO would be accepted, and that the money must be deposited with him prior to September Ist, 1910. The feeling of the meeting was entirely against obtaining outside financial assistance, and an interesting discussion on ways and mfians ensued. In view of the keen interest manifested in hockey it was recognised that an opportunity presented itself of placing the Association on a sound financial footing. The English match will probably bring "grist to the mill," but the Association is not going to trust to luck, but to their own energetic efforts. The opinion was expressed that a good deal of which would be gratefully received, might be expected from members of the fair sex interested in hockey. The following motion was agreed to:~"That each senior team contributed net less than £lO, and that the contributions be paid to the Secretary not iater than July 15th, 1910."
