MARTINBOROUGH EWE FAIR.

Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report as follows:—One of the most j successful sales that we have con- j dcucled in this district for some time, j took place in our Martinborou<>h | yards yesterday We had a most satisfactory entry and yarded just j over 7,000 ewes to one of the largest and most representative attendances of buyer's that have ever come together at a sale in the Maryborough yards. All lines ottered were straight from stations and farms, and in the yarding were some really good sheep. Buyers present recognised the qualty of some of the ewes, and bidding all through the sale was spirited, and competition in a great many instances was very keen indeed. The annual draft of Mr J. McLeod's "Whakapuni" ewes came under the hammer in splendid order and condition; this Romney fleck is a wellknown one throughout tne district, the quailty of the wool and constitution of sheep being excellent. This annual draft is always keenly enquired for, and when the sale started with the 2-tooth ewes buyers quickly settled down to work and the first pen of 152 found a new owner at 15s sd. The 4-year ewes coming from the same flock brought 14s 7d, and the 5-year ewes 33s lid. The ewes ottered on account of Messrs M. and F. McLeod—bred up from the Whakapuni flock—were also a first-class lot, and a record price for 4-tooth ewes this season was obtained for their line; after keen competition the ewes were disposed of at the satisfactory figure of 17s 3d. Five year old ewes on ft account of the same vendors Drought 12s 2d to 12s Bd. We also had some twod ewes from Mr J. D. McDougall- of Pirinoa. which soli as follows:—4-tooth to f.f.m. 12s6dto 12s 8d; 2-tooths, at 13s; Stoney Creek 5 year ewes brought 13s Id. For other lines of 5-year ewe prices ranged from 10s Id to lis sd. Very few lines were passed at auction, and at the end of the day a very small proportion of the yarding was turned out unsold.
