HIGHLY SATISFACTORY ENTRIES. Entries for the Masterton Horticultural Society's second annual show I closed on Saturday , night, tha splen- I did total of 636 being recorded, exclusive of trade exhibits, which will form an attractive feature of the Show. The entries greatly exceed tho-e of last year, and form a decided increase in those sections wbjcli a,r§ mo§t useful y> the district, viz., the fruit exhibits. No less than 86 entries have been received in the fruit sections, cooking apples accounting for 12 and dessert pears for 10 entries. Vegetables loom large, although the Chinamen have not entered this year. The total entries in this section number 153, beet ac--1 counting for 12, and vegetable marrows no less than 'l7. Potatoes are rather weak, only nine entries in this show section being recejved. In pot plants there are 43 entries. . The flower entries number 135, so that despite the unfavourable weather a glorious blaze of colour will be seen. The strongest classes are Asters 23 entries, Dahlias 18 entries, Sweet Peas 16 entries In the home industries section some classes are neglected altogether, but in uthtars the competition is very good. The total entries number 65, white scones 8, jam sandwich, fruit and seed cake seven each. In fancy work the competition is very poor. In no class are there more than four entries, some are blanks, and in a great many there is only one entry. The children's classes are much better, the entries running into seven and eight for several classes. The photographic entries are more numerous than last year's, scenic 3, portraiture 5. Al ogether the Society have reason to congratulate themselves in the interest displayed by the public as evidenced by the total of entries. Given a fine day the exhibition will be well worth a visit. The committee start work to-night at erecting the benches, and it is anticipated that by Tuesday night everything will be in order to receive the exhibits. The committee have decided, that all exhibitors, with the exception of judges and stewards must leave the hall at eleven o'clock on Wednesday morning. There will be absolutely no departure from this rule. Exhibitors of pot plants are kindly requested to fetch their plants to the hall on Tuesday night, and thus save the time of the stewards on Wednesday morning. Anyone wishing to stage their exhibits may do so on Tuesday night. The hall will be open at 7 o'clock on Wednesday morning to receive exhibits. The committee will be. pleased to find room for any specimen plants for exhibition only. Anyone with any rare or interesting plants will greatly oblige by leaving them for the occasion.
