HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY'S SHOW.
It is erjtitying to learn that' satisfactory entries have been received by the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Societv for their annual Autumn Show, which will be held in tha
Town and Drill Halls on Wednesday next., The energetic officials of the Society have succeeded in enthusing considerable public interest into the function which will, no doubt, show evidence of pleasing progress in horticultural matters in both the town and district generally. Horticulture is both pleasant and usefuJ, and the Society that promotes interest in all kinds of gardening may well take credit for achieving work of an almost invaluable public character. ' Those who are able and do not enter | into the delights of gardening cannot
realise what they are missing. Pleasant outside surroundings give an in- i creased attraction to the home, while the constant labour that is' essential to keep a garden, or orchard, or both, in really good order is most conducive to healthy conditions of life, and moreover, there is an endless store |of knowledge of a highly useful I character that the gardener can find I pleasure in endeavouring to master. Then, again, from a financial point of view, the garden should not be ignored. Those who garden simply for pleasure and health do not require to study matters from the economical point of view, but in many homes the garden is not an altogether inconsiderable item in the family income, and, probably, there are many people who would find a good deal of profit in gardening, if they only had a better Knowledge of how to go about things. The Show, it goes ! without saying, exercises an educative effect, while the rivalry among ' competitors tends to cement interest 1 in horticulture generally. We hope- ; that the approaching Show will be a complete success, and that the high- : est anticipations of the promoters 'kill be fulfilled.
