A MAN OF MANY PARTS.

A man of many parts has been di scovered in a remote part of Victoria. In the district referred to there is only one justice of the peace, and he is also the only medical man there. Recently the body of a man was found in a watarhole near the township. As justice of the peace and acting coroner he viewed the body and ordered that there should be a post mortem examination. Then, as medical man, he made the examination. Next, as Coroner, he heard the j evidence of a number of witnesses and gave evidence himself of the result of the post mortem examination. He administered the oath to each witness, but the local constable was called upon to administer the oath to the Coroner-witness. He signed his depositions as a witness, and at a later stage signed the same paper as Coroner. Having completed the hearing of the evidence the Coroner duly recorded his verdict. As a medical man he submitted an account and put down £2]2s for making the post mortem and £1 la for attending the inquest. As a witness he certified as Coroner to the correctness of the account, and forwaided it to the department. The Attorney-General is considering the matter.
