By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 19. The first day's racing of the Nev) Zealand Amateur Swimming Champi unship meeting,, provided some sensational contests. The weather was ideal, the bright sunshine being tempered by a cool breeze, a south wind, which did not affect the 1 swimmers in l the basin nf the dock. The 220 Yards Championship gave the crowd the first taste of a series of sensational performances, Champion Healy and Freyberg finishing in a line, each being under the New Zealand record time. Atkinson created a sensation by winning the 220 yd Breast Stroke Championship in world's record time, clipping & 3-ssec. off P. Matson's time of 3min 14sec. Healy won the 880 tfards Championship m New Zealand record time. Champion started, but when leading on equal terms with Healy ricked himself in turning and gave up at 480 yards. Results:— 220 Yards Championship.—M. E. Champion, Auckland 1; R. Healy, Wellington, 2; B. C. Freyberg, Wellington,. 3; Also started—G. Seymour, Napier; E. H. Bailey, Canterbury; J. Grant,, Hawera; R. Bell, Auckland;: and C. Campbell, Wanganui. A splendid race. Won by I Ift, with a touch betwsen second and third. Time,. 2min 40sec—a New Zea-

Dodge was, second, 25yds away, and Rich five yards away third. Time, 12min 41 3-saec—a New Zealand record. The 50 yds scratch race' was won by Marrett, of Auckland, with Emerson, of Nelson, second.
