NEWCASTLE STRIKE.
THE COLLIEES' CASE,

I The main claims submitted to the ■ Wages Board, on behalf of the Colliery Employees' Federation are: — That the selling price of coal shall regulate the wages in all seams in the Newcastle and Maitland districts. When the selling price is 9s, the hewing rate will be 3s lOd. With every shilling rise in price there shall be a fourpence advance in the hewing rate.
The claims also involve proportionate advances for tops and bottoms and yardage rates, and that it shall be optional for the miners to do shift work; that the minimum standard height cf a seam shall be five feet, a penny per ton ppr inch to be paid for every inch below that in addition to the ordinary hewing rate; that only one shift shall be worked, for the purpose of drawing coal, in 24 hours; that eight hours from bank to bank shall constitute a working day for all employees; that all coal failing to pass through a three-quarter inch mesh shall be paid for as round coal.
The men also demand extra pay for wet places, ani a charge with regard to rilling dirt, this involving an advance. RECENT SOCIALIST DEMONSTRATION.
OVER ONE HUNDRED SUMMONSES ISSUED.

SYDNEY, February 17. Over one hundred summonses have been issued in connection with the recent^Socialist procession, the leader of which (Feldhausen) bas already been fined.
