RADIO-ACTIVE ORES.

WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY.

INTERESTING DISCOVERY.

United Press Association —By flo.ct ic Telegraph Copyright

Received February 14, 10 a.m ADELAIDE, February 14.

Quite an unexpected discovery of the properties of radium-h,earing mineral as just been made in connection with the installation of wireless telegraphy between Melbourne and Clifton Springs. It has been found that by the use of radin-active ores in the installation, the transmission of messages has been strikingly facilitated. Steps are to be taken to protect the discovery.

The first experiments were made with Bohemian pitchbiends, but by an accident some ore was used from the Radio Hill Mine at Ollary. This demonstrated that through some unknown quality South Australian c«xrnotite ore, which contains 50 per cent, of uranium oxide, is much superior to Bohemian pitchblende for purposes of wireless telegraphy.
