TE WHARAU NOTES.
Speeial to ;the Age. The district around Te Wharau has been considerably benefited by the recent rains, and the country generally ia looking at its best. Rabbit poisoning operations- are being vigor ously carried out all over the district, and this great pest to the farmer should not be felt so much for some time to come. Mr Gordon Mcintosh, who, to the great regret of all concerned has severed his connection with the Te Wharau School, has taken up a position as agent under the Mutual Life and Citizens' Assurance Co., Ltd. Mr Mcintosh visited Te Wharau this week in his new capacity, and reports business as fairly brisk. A large and important Maori "tangi" will be held here next week, to commemorate the death of one of the most respected Maori chiefs who di"d here last year. A large number i f natives are expected to arrive from all parts of the country. Mr J. M. Grant'is acting as relieving teacher in the Te Wharau School until the appointment of a permanent teacher. The Ta Wharau Rifle Club intend holding its final shoot for trophies and prizes next Saturday. As the prizes and trophies are valuable and handsome some very keen shooting should take place to decide the fortunate winners. The ladies of the district who take a*very keen interest in the club will no doubt be present in large numbers, and will make the meeting pleasant by the dispensing of afternoon tea.
