HOCKEY.
Hockey seems to be more generally played in Wairarapa this year than last, and enthusiasts are already getting ready for ths approaching season. It is anticipated that several new clubs will enter for both the senior and junior competitions, and as Wellington holds the Shield it behoves hockey players to make an endeavour to have Wairarapa's name engraved upon it. The proposed visit of an English team in 1910 will also act as an incentive to distill more interest into the game. The employees of the Masterton Post Office have formed a club, and included in their senior players will be E. Clarke, D. Loader, and M. Mclutosh, while several younger players are also coming on. It is rumoured that Dalefield will enter a team, and Featherston two, if it is correct about the Dalefield team a split must occur in Carterton, and so make the senior teams more even. The Masterton Clubs will no doubt be the same as last year, with perhaps an addition or two, as a meeting is called for Monday evening, in S. Matthew's bchooiroom, to discuss the formation a new Club.
