CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on Saturday last: Present—the Chairman (Mr J. S. Langdon), and Councillors Richardson, R. L. Langdon, J as. Lennie, Ryder, Innes and Mason. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from Mr Taylor, applying for permission to construct a cart crossing from the road to his house, which was agreed to. Mrs Grant wrote complaining of a nuisance by noi-ses being tied up under her window, and asking the j Council if something could be done by erecting a place on the road to tie horses, and to assist ladies in mounting. The Council declined to grant assistance. The Marine Department wrote asking it the Council would undertake the expenditure ot £250 on the | Castjepoint Landing Reserve, and if*; so to supply plans, etc., of the proposed work. In reply the Council suggested installing a new dumping press, and failing that, to increase ! the length of the jetty and th? shed , accommodation. I i Mr Toogood advised that he had J 1 arranged with Mr Rawson fo survey f the Makirikiri Ro?.d, ami that the I working plans would be prepared by the County Engineer. The chairman explained that he had authorised Mr H. Toogooi to get the survey made and the cost to be charged to the amount voted rfor expenditure on that road, and asked the Council tn confirm same, but a majority of the Council were of opinion that the cost should come out of the grant in aid made by Mr Toogood towards the proposed work, and directed the clerk to inform him accordingly. Mr Cameron attended in respect to the Whakafcaki Valley Road contract, and stated that he had completed all the work which the Engineer had mentioned in his report of 16th December, and wanted a settlement. — Matter to be referred to Mr Barton. Mr Bartholomew attended in regard to the formaton of about 40 chains of road from his boundary gate to his house, pointing out that this work was authorised last year but it had not been done owing to the proposed deviation of the line. The Council agreed to put the work in hand very ! soon. I It was agread tj apply to Mr F. ( W. Groves for a section of land for a j roadman's cottage at the entrance to | the road to Breakneck 'ord. i The Road Overseer's report was j read and dealt with, and the clerk j was directed to get the necessary I timber for repairs to the decking of J the bridge at Mataikona, and the j small bridge near Mr Maunsell's. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £431 14s sd, and accoujfca were presented and passed for payment amounting to £729 7s Id. A special meeting was held to tix the day in the week for a half holiday, and it was airreed to fix Thursday, the same as last year the Minis • ter to be advised accordingly.
