THE WARATAH.
ALLEGED MESSAGES FROM -PASSENGERS. BELIEVED TO BE FALSE. United Press Association— By Electric Telegrap Copyright. SYDNEY, February 5. A bottle has been picked up at Newport Beach, near Broken Bay, containing an ill-spelled, clumsilyscrawled message, alleged to be written by a man on board the Waratah, announcing that the vessel was slowly drifting South to Victoria Land, and had lost her rudder and propeller. The police authorities attach no credence to the message MELBOURNE, February 5. A bottle has been picked up on the beach, near Sale, 128 miles Eastsouth east of Melbourne, containing the following nessage:—Thrown over board while (he Waratah is sinking fast, in liumde 48 East, longitude 130 degrees South.—J. Millbourne." No such passenger's name appears on the list. £ There was a W. Millbourne on boarl, but he landed at Durban.
