A CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER.

George Oliver was, at the Poice Court to-day, committed for trial at the Supreme Court, charged with having attempted to murder his wife at Kingsland, and to commit suicide. He peaded not guilty. A letter found in accuseds pocket was handed in as evidence. It stated: "I am on the eve of committing one of the ' worst crimes ever committed in this district. I have a road that is heavier than I can bear. I have been shut off from the comforts nf my familly by the ignorant cussedness ot my wife, and I must have my revenge. My life is no use to me, for I have trouble on every hand, so I intend to do away with myself and my wife She has I been the means of my living an unnatural, miserable life, and in order or fcer not to have the benefits of the little I have, I have decided to .take this course. There is sure to be someone that will blame me, but before being too rough try to think how you could put up with what I have had to in a lonely home by myaelf, cold, desolate nad miserable, and none to j speak to. It has preyed on my mind, and got the best ot me." The evidence of accused's wife was to the effect that he had been drinking, and in consqeuence she had been living apart from him, but some two years before he attempted to shoot her. She had promised to forgive him and care or him if he gave up drink.
