CATHOLIC PICNIC.
AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING^ The annual Catholic picnic was held on the Newman Domain, yesterday, in beautiful weather. The special train from Masterton was crowded to its fullest capacity, and by the time the contingent from'the North arrived there was a record attendance. A splendid programme of sports was presented, and some exciting finishes were witnessed, especially in the aquatic section. Very Rev. Dean McKenna, Father T. McKenna, Father Saunaersun, assisted by committees frpm the various parishes, bad all arrangements well in hand, and Mr J. Bradbury made a most efficient and capable secretary. Following are the results:—Boys' race, under ten years—P. Monaghan 1. Galvin 2, P. Currie 3, L. Jackson 4. Girls" race, urtdtr ten years—N. Miller 1, A. Currie 2, G. u'Dowd3. Boy's race, over ten years—A. Champion 1, R. Gray 2, E. O'Dowd 3, N. McKay 4. Boy's race, under seven years—J. Welch 1, W. Hourigan 2; E. Hunt 3. Girl's race, under seven years—P. Dowselll, L. Hourigan 2, R. Servers 3. School championship, three distances—loo yards: D. Welch 1, R. Grey 2, M. McGruddy and W. Rains dead heat. 150 yards: D. Welch 1, R. Gray 2, W. Rains 3. 220 yards: D. Welch 1, R. Gray 2. Welch wan the gold medal for most points in the three distanes. Girls' skipping race—P. Frost 1, M. Duggan 2, M. Henry 3. Three-legged ract?; girls— Misses O'Dowd and Hanley 1, O'Leary and Gurinesky 2, Ure and Rooks 3. Marripd women's race—Mrs Hayes 1, Mrs Jensen 2, Mrs Prendegast 3. Three legged race, boys— Mulcahy and Duggan 1, Welch and Welch 2, O'Dowd and Cress 3. Sack race, boys—A. Dobbin 1, P. Dillon 2, L. Welch 3. Sack race, girls—T. Dobbin 1, L. O'Dowd 2, M. Dobbin 3. Men's wrestling, light weight, Cumberland style—J. J. Spillane (Masterton) 1, W. Goggin (Mangamaire) 2, C. Gray (Eketahuna) 3. Boys' wregtling-J. O'Dowd 1, A. Champion 2, P. Monaghan 3. Relay race, running—Masterton Parish team 1. Eketahuna Scouts 2. SWIMMING EVENTS. Relay race —Eketahuna Scouts team 1, Catholic Schools team 2. Boys' race', under twelve years— Taiwahia 1, J.
