A special meeting of the New Zealand Federated Shearers' Union will be held in the Dominion Hall, Masterton, on Saturday, February sth, at 7.30 p.m. sharp.

A special meeting of the members of the Foresters' Lodge' will be held at half-past seven this evening to consider the question of .making alterations to the hall. As t!he matter is of considerable importance a large attendance is requested.

The committee of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club adopted the balance sheet of the Anniversary Day Carnival last night. In spite of expenses totalling £127 10s incurred in connection with the fixture a satisfactory credit balance was shown.

At the Masteton Auction Mart today, Mr J. R. Nicol will sell privately a consignment of Hawke's Bay fruit, consisting of 100 cases of plums and 100 cases peaches. Any not sold wil be cleared by auction tomorrow. v

The erection of a shower bath at the Park Lake is a matter towards which the committee of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club showed itself to be sympathetically disposed last evening. The committee decided to vote £5 towards this object if the Borough Council will take it in hand

A handicap swimming race will be held by the Wairarapa Amateur ■Swimming Club at the Park Lake on Thursday evening next, at 6.30 o'clock, weather and circumstances permitting. The Executive uommiuce of St. John Ambulance ivi.-trict Nurse Fund JBazaar will meet in the Drill Hall on Morday evening • next, at 730 o'clock sharp. The delegates appointed from the various Friendly Societies and the other bodies who are taking an interest in this charitable movement are cordially invited to be present, as it is hoped to have all detail matters in connection with the bazaar arranged at this meeting.

The generosity of the public of Masterton which contributed towards the prize list of the recent swimming carnival of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club was the 3ubject of favourable comment at a meeting of the committee' of the Club last evening. It was reported that practically all of a £SO prize I list was donated, and a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to the donors. The ladies' committee who supplied the luncheon were also accorded a similar honour as were those who contributed money or refreshments towards the luncheon. The assisting officials, too, were the recipients of a special vote of thanks for their assiduity;

A passenger from Masterton by the 7.30 a.m. train for Wellington on Wednesday reached his destination, at 1.10 p.m. The train was detained at a point on tbe Summit incline known as "Siberia" for a hour and a quarter, whilst an extra engine was obtained.! He facetiously sug* gested that the Minister«for Rail* ways, who was a passenger by the train, should be prosecuted JNe reckless travelling.
