PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. The Gun Club match fired for tb e President's trophy took place on Mr Geo. Oxley's grounds this afternoon, and resulted in a win for J. Hugftes, junr., with ten kills, twelve birds (clay pigeons); W. W. McCardle was second with eight kills. The shooting was poor, and was not up to the usual standard.
A sensational bolt on horseback happened to Mrs W. Naylor, this afternoon. The horse, a well-bred one, bolted from near Hamua rigbt to Pahiatua, a distance of eight miles. Mrs Naylor pluckily stuck to the horse, and endeavoured to pull him up. She got exhausted, lost the reins, and fell off on to the asphalt path a few yards from her own door. Mrs Naylor is very severely shaken.
The bowling green was much in use to-day, one match for the President's trophy resulted —Shaw, receive 13, beat Wills, receive 6, the game ending 31—27 Mr Halliday, senr., of Makairo, has sold his farm. Mr, Mrs and Miss Halliday, are going on . a trip to the Old Country. The garden fete at the Anglican Vicarage was well attended to-day., a large gathering also rolling up this evening. Rev. and Mrs Isaacson were kept very busy, as were the various stall attendants. There were various side-shows to amuse both young and old, and the fete will be a great success financially. Vocal items were rendered this afternoon by Mesdames Burgess and Speer and Miss Moore, and the Pahiatua Band played at night.
