JACK JOHNSON ARRESTED.
CHARGED WITH ASSAULTING A NEGRO. Received February 2, 8.40 a.m. NEW YO/.IK, February 1. Jack Johnson, the world's champion heavy-weight boxer, has been committed or trial in New York on a charge of assaulting a negro in a barroom. He was admitted to bail in the sum of one thousand dollars (£200). ' Johnson's lawyer states that the cjiae was concocted with the intention of preventing the fight between Jeffries and the champion.
