SALVATION ARMY.
FAREWELL SERVICES.
At the Masterton Barracks, yesterday, in view of the early departure of Adjutant and Mrs Greene, JJwho have been transferred to Petone, services o± a valedictory character were conducted. The attendances were very good when the wretched state of the prevailing weather is considered. Adjutant Greene delivered vigorous addresses and urged his hearers to do all within their power to promote the progress of the Army. In the courseof the services eulogistic testimony was paid by Sergeant-Major Barker and Bandmaster Penhall.to i the good work accomplished by Adi jutant and Mrs Greene, since they have been stationed in the district, the opinion being expressed that the local branch of the Amy has never been in a stronger position. At the evening service Mrs Greene, who is a telling and lucid speaker, delivered an address, and, also, sang a solo.
COMMISSIONER'S VISIT ON WEDNESDAY. By advertisement elsewhere it is announced that Commissioner and Mrs Hay, who are accompanied by Colonels Birkenshaw and Knight, Brigadiers Albiston and Bray. StaffCaptain Colvin and Adjutant Imrie, will visit Masterton on Wednesday next. In the evening addresses will be delivered at the Barracks and services' of a very stirring character conducted. A civic welcome will be extended to the visitors by the Mayor (Mr P. L. tiollings) at the Railway Station. . The Commissioner, who is succeeding Commissioner and Mrs McKie, is of course, chief of the Array in j Australasia, a most responsible post i indeed. Commissioner iiay|is a moat J forcible speaker, and striking personality, and naturally members of the Salvation Army, and those who are interested in Army work are keenly looking forward to seeing their new chief commander on this—his firsttour of inspection. Mrs Hay is of the greatest assistance to her husband, and a very experienced officer, having seen a great deal of the Army's philanthropic work in London.
