Krupp's armament firm has constructed two guns for the destruction of airships—one[of a diameter of 7§ centimetres, to be mounted on a motor car, and the other of 10h centimetres for use on warships. Both guns fire a shell discharging a trail of luminous smoke, whereby the course of the projectiles can be followed. The shells are so constructed as to explode the gas in the airships. (A centimetre (one-hundredth part of a metre—39.37inches) is about the third ot an inch.
