PROPOSED CLOSE SEASON FOR GAME.

By Telegraph—Press Association. NELSON, January 26. The Acclimatisation Society has wired a strong protest to the Minister of Interior against the alleged proposal to declare a close season for mported game, which in this district means mostly quail. Californian quail are very plentiful here, and if a close season is declared these will multiply and become a serious source of loss to farmers, especially on new land just after grass seeding. It is understood that tne Dominion Council of the Acclimatisation Society is being urged to take united action to protest against a close season being declared on the ground of the useleesness of the action, loss of revenue from licenses, and removal of a check on poachers.
