(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tuesday. The per cent, penalty is to be added to all rates unpaid in the Wairarapa- South County after the 3rd February. Mrs J. M. Toomath has sold out her booksellers and stationery business in High Street tu Mr Walter Gandar, of the Lower Hutt. Mrs Toomath and family purpose taking up their residence in Gisborne, for which place they will leave in the course of a few weeko, where Mr Toomath holds a position at an agricultural college. There are numerous unoccupied houses in Carterton at the present tie. Senior and junior teams have been selected from each of the four sections in the local Rifle Volunteers, and it is proposed to hold a shooting tourney. Ihe teams are* —No 1. Section. —Senior: Sergeant Hall, Corporal Reid, Bugler Fairbrother, Private E. B. Hall, and Private Kemble; Junior: Lance Corporal Bubbers, Privates Berrill, U. Smith, Swan and Hewson. No. 2. Section. Senior: Sergeant Lawrence, Corporal Whyte, Privates Pi Reid, Sievera, and Miller. Junior: Privates Masson, L. l.'udson, Ireland, Skelley and Andersen. No. 3 Section —senior: Sergeant Judd, Corporal Martin, Privates Vose, Goodin and Lewis. Junior: Privates Lorenzen, S. Hall, Haxton, Meyrick and A. Dudson. No. 4 Section.—Senior: Sergeant Morgan, Corporal Eagle, Privates Morgan, Harvey,'and Arcus. Junior: Privates
Ashton, Goodin, Tunnicliffe, Saywell and Bambry. At a special meeting of the Borough Council last evening, His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. Armstrong) was elected delegate to vote for the election cf a msmber of the Wellington Harbour Board. Mr H. Watson, proprietor of the Wairarapa Baeon Factory, has shipped a consignment of bacon to the London market. At the annual meetine of the Ahieruhe Sports Club, the annual report and balance sheet disclosed a successful year.' After raising the prize money by £l2, the club had come nut with a credit balance of £4. It was decided to hold the annual gathering on March 3rd Charges for admission were decided upon as under. Adults Is to grounds, including paddock for horses; school children free. Luncheon is to be provided for Is 6d, and afternoon tea for 6d. The election of officers resulted : —Patron, Mr H. R.
