THE KRUPP WORKS.
THE "CHRONICLE" CONFUTED. Received January 17, 8.20 a.m. LONDON, January leT" Mr Robert Blatchord, the Socialist writer and editor of the "Clarion," replying to the "Daily Chronicle" in regard to ftrupp's works, quotes the "Chronicle's" article of 20th March last, stating that Krupps in 1907 employed 4,3.50 men, and had since secretly raised two millions sterling for the purpose of increasing their manufacture of guns, gunmountings, and armourplates.
A cablegram yesterday morning stated that, writing to the "Standard." the other day, an Euglish engineer stated that there was great activity at the works at Essen, which were lull of guns and armour, etc., for both land and sea batteries. He also stated thar, the Krupp works were going for twenty-four hours a day, and were giving employment to a total of 66,000 hands. In replying to this latter report, the "Chronicle' states that Krupps chiefly" turn out implements for peaceful industry, the greatest total of hands employed on armaments being 5,000.
