J. C. WILLIAMSON'S NEW DRAMATIC COMPANY.
To-night "The Cheat" will be produced for the first time in Masterton by a company described as '"the strongest dramatic organisation that has visited New Zealand for many years past." "The Cheat" is reported as a spectacular military drama of the best type, which has been spoken of in terms of enthusiastic praise by critics all along the line, as a play of fiue construction, clever dialogue, exciting situations, and engrossing interest. The "Otago Daily Times" says:—ln a play of incident, everything depends on how things are done. 'The Cheat* is glorified by splendid staging and acting, ana is raised at times to a very high dramatic level by the manner in which opportunities for acting of real quality are utilised." This play was a marked success in Sydney, and has won fresh laurels throughout the South Island, and during the Christmas season of the company in Wellington. The cast is quite exceptional, andjjincludes Miss Ethel Warwick, the new English leading lady, who makes her first appearance here, Miss Emma Temple, Miss Nelli. Calvin, Messrs Geo. fe. Titheradge, Thomas Kingston, A. E. Greenaway Gregan McMahon, Cyril Mackay, Harry Plimrner, Roland Staveley and other widely-known and popular artists. The box plans at Miss Rive's show every indication of a crowded house, which is not to be wondered at with such a powerful attraction.
